Snow Bunting

Plectrophenax nivalis

I had a magnificent hour late one Saturday afternoon in October, 2009 with six of these migrants. I have in the past seen and photographed them at this particular spot foraging on the ground, but never up on grass reeds like this. As it turned out, the light was also exquisite. Whilst they were a little shy at first, probably because of the people traffic at the spot, these birds soon got used to me and I was able to approach within 6 feet of them. It really was magical!
