Common Kingfisher
Halcyon smyrnensis bengalensis
This is the same Kingfisher found in Europe and Great Britain. It is not such a common bird in Singapore and Malaysia, where it is a winter visitor. However, in the last couple of years it has been seen in Singapore in much more numbers; perhaps it is a sign of global warming. The male has a mostly blackish bill, and the base or most of the lower mandible of the female is reddish-orange.
