This Kingfisher is also known locally as the Small Blue Kingfisher. I had the greatest pleasure in meeting Victor Mason, an English nature author living in Bali, who wrote in his wonderful book Birds of Bali, "Another veritable gem of the animal kingdom - at one instant sapphire, and the next turquoise, depending on the angle of the light - it dazzles the eye of the beholder....."
