Siamang Gibbon
(Symphalangus syndactylus)
I have always
wanted to photograph a Malaysian Gibbon, having seen them in
the jungles when I was very young. They can be frequently heard
with a call that is as haunting as the darkness of the forests
and jungles of Malaysia. So, on a birding trip to the montane
region of Malaysia in November 2010, I finally found this rather
unique ape. It is the largest of the Gibbons to be found in South-east
Asia, and is the only species in the genus Symphalangus.
