Silver Oriole
(Oriolus mellianus)
This very attractive
Oriole breeds in China mostly and is very rarely seen in Thailand.
I was told that Thailand's leading Birdwatcher's first sighting
of this bird was in 1990 and he had not seen one again until
this year, a gap of 17 years. Obviously, it attracted a great
deal of attention as it appeared like clockwork at a spot at
Khao Yai National Park every morning at 7:30 for a period of
about a month. It constantly moved around hunting for insects
very high in the jungle trees and never came down. The angle
is steep, but I am very pleased I got these shots. |
